Introducing Seben
Seben is a PDF workspace with an AI agent that shows its work. What it does, how it keeps you in charge, and where the name comes from.
· The Seben team
Much of the work done on documents is small and careful. Take three email addresses out of a contract before it goes to a partner. Fill in the same form for the fifth time this month. Pull every invoice total from a folder into one table. It is work that needs attention, and it is exactly the work people hesitate to hand to software, because it is hard to see what the software did.
Seben is our answer: a document workspace with an AI agent that does that work beside the page, and shows each step as it goes.
An agent that shows its work
Open a PDF in Seben and the agent sits next to it. Ask in plain words, such as “redact all emails” or “fill this form”, and the agent lists every tool step it takes as it runs, so you can follow what it read, what it searched for and what it wants to change.
In Ask mode, which is the default, the agent stops before anything destructive. Deleting pages, redacting, reordering, merging, splitting and digitally signing all wait for your approval. If you would rather it simply went ahead, Auto mode applies those changes without asking.
Either way, nothing is lost. Every edit, yours or the agent’s, is saved as a new version of the document. Undo and redo step through them, and the version history restores any earlier one.
Built for the careful parts
A few things we cared about getting right:
- Redaction that checks itself. Redaction removes the text and images under the box, then checks the result by extracting the text again. Earlier versions keep the original, so share the redacted version you download.
- Extraction you can verify. Run the same fields across up to 50 documents and get a table back. Every value cites the page and the sentence it came from. When a document doesn’t state something, the value comes back empty with a reason instead of a plausible guess.
- Exports that say what they found. Word and Excel exports come with a conversion-quality report, so you know which pages to check before you send the file on.
- Scans you can search. Run OCR on a scanned PDF and its text becomes selectable and searchable in Seben’s viewer.
Seben also does the everyday things: form filling, drawn signatures and stamps, headers, footers, watermarks, Bates numbering, and password protection on download.
For one person or a whole team
Everyone gets a free personal workspace with the full editor and agent, private to you. When a team needs to share documents, an owner creates an organization workspace and invites people. It starts with a 30-day free trial, no card needed.
Sign in with email, or with a work account from any Microsoft 365 organization. Seben runs in the browser and as a desktop app for Mac and Windows.
Why “Seben”
In Bambara and Malinké, languages of West Africa, sɛbɛn means a document, writing, the written record.
The name says what we care about. The written record should be something you can trust, and an agent that works on it should leave a record of what it did. Hand over the work, and keep the record.
